Home Building Process
You have your plans and
specifications, your financing has been arranged. Now is the time to
start and you meet with your builder to go over the correct location
for the home.
At the start of
construction many permits and arrangements have to be made for the
construction process to begin.
You will find below a list of
some the arrangements that have to be make and a schedule of events.
You will find that you can jump ahead on some things, but others
have to follow a certain chain of events.
Home Building Process - With a full basement

Stake out the location for
the foundation.

Apply for the building
permit.

Apply for driveway or road permit.

Apply for sewer and water services or septic and
water permits.

Apply for electrical and
gas services.

Arrange for temporary
electrical either by generator or from your utility company.
You might even have to arrange for temporary heat.

Arrange for the excavation
of the foundation.

Arrange for the foundation
to be poured.
-
Remove any trees, brush or
debris from the building site.

Building permit issued.

Note: Building materials,
roof trusses, windows and exterior doors should be ordered as soon
as possible after the building permit has been issued.

Arrange for a framing,
roofing, plumber, electrical, mechanical and siding contractor.

Excavation for the
foundation.

Foundation and footings
installed.

Back fill the foundation.

Start framing the home
first, then the roofing, install windows and exterior doors, then
rough-in for plumbing, electrical, mechanical along with any
fireplaces.

Install the siding and
soffit, insulation, drywall, exterior decks, concrete and driveway,
excavation for the finish grade.

Install finish materials,
trim, cabinets, counter tops, ceramic tile or hardwood floors.
The carpet should be the last thing to install.

Work with the painter for
the best time to start painting.

Finish work for plumbing,
electrical and mechanical.
